Kier Homes wanted to make greener living a reality at Blue Quarter and worked with the CarbonNeutral Company to make it a CarbonNeutral Development. This means that the carbon dioxide emissions have been balanced out by putting money to community-based projects which reduce the equivalent amount of CO2. The measurement includes project design, construction, sales, marketing, PR, materials, logistics and travel.
The development of new homes in Maidstone, Kent, includes such eco-friendly fittings such as low energy light bulbs, recycling bins, water butts, low water usage plants, natural paints, water sustainability control, recycled aluminium windows, sustainable timber, and high performance boilers, giving this development an official Green energy tariff.
Throughout the project, Kier Homes has taken care to reduce CO2 at source, such as installing energy efficient lighting throughout and signing up to a green energy tariff.
Kier Homes is also helping to facilitate Blue Quarter Homeowners to make their homes CarbonNeutral beyond the moving-in date, and are offsetting the 1st year of occupancy to be 1.3 t/CO2 per apartment.
