Bardney sits on the River Witham, 9 miles east of the cathedral city of Lincoln. Nestled among woods and fields of rural Lincolnshire, Bardney blends rich heritage and charming location.
With an excellent array of amenities featuring pre and primary schools, a medical centre, chemist, post office and 3 pubs, Bardney is the site of a former Benedictine Abbey and home to a 15th century church. As well as 3 golf courses within 6 miles, the village has its own Heritage Centre to celebrate highlights of the past, such as RAF Bardney, which flew Lancaster bombers during WWII.
Next to the village, the Bardney Limewoods National Nature Reserve conserves some of the most important examples of ancient woodland in Britain. Covering 383 hectares and made up of 9 individual woods, the reserve is a haven for local wildlife. The 20 mile Water Rail Way follows the river through Bardney along the former Boston to Lincoln railway line, and is part of the national cycle network.
Nearby Lincoln provides a colourful variety of markets, boutiques, specialist shops and High Street shopping, with sports & leisure facilities, parks and open spaces. Places of interest include the magnificent medieval cathedral and Lincoln Castle, parts of which have survived since the 12th century. The atmospheric city has much to offer together with easy rail links to Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Nottingham and Derby.
